On Sunday, more than a thousand people celebrated the traditional boat pilgrimage that is celebrated every year around this time in honor of San Blas in the coastal neighborhood of Los Abrigos, in Granadilla de Abona. After two years of a pandemic that prevented the celebration by land and sea of Sab Blasito, as the patron saint is known in the town, residents and visitors were able to enjoy a holiday from one in the afternoon, all of them dressed in white and following each step of the pilgrimage, which as usual ended in a good dance.
Prior to the procession through the streets of the neighborhood, the fishermen of Los Abrigos carried the image on their shoulders from their cave to the Plaza de Agua Dulce, from where the boat pilgrimage departed along the usual route, being escorted by a large part of the Municipal corporation, headed by José Domingo Regalado and the first deputy mayor, Marcos González, who, due to their stature, stood out as much as the patron on the shoulders of the faithful fishermen.
All this week
After the prayer in honor of the patron saint, the floats -many of them simulating boats- folk groups and participating rondallas headed from Agua Dulce avenue to Estrella de Mar street, and from there to the Los Abrigos pier, where a large festival that lasted until midnight by the Los Concejales group.
The festivities in honor of San Blas in this fishing village will continue with the election gala for the elder pilgrim and child queen, which will take place today and tomorrow, respectively, and for the queen of the festivities, on the 8th.
The procession and fireworks will be held this Saturday with the usual route and on Sunday, the procession from the church, starting at 1:00 p.m., to the pier, where a mass will be held in honor of the deceased and the boat of the Saints. The traditional chin on the pier and the end of the festivities is scheduled for Monday the 12th.
