The general secretary of the UGT, Manuel Navarro, values the slight drop in unemployment registered in August and which amounts to 1,148 fewer unemployed people, but warns that the figures for youth employment on the islands continue to “concern”.
“In this matter it is necessary to implement actions aimed at improving the employability conditions of this sector of the population,” he adds in a note.
Unemployment fell in August in the Canary Islands by 1,148 people (-0.6%) compared to the previous month, leaving a total of 190,282 unemployed on the islands, 18.7% less than in August last year, specifically 43,968 people less.
The Canary Islands have been at the forefront of the decline in registered unemployment in Spain and by province it fell by 686 people in Santa Cruz de Tenerife (-0.75%) and by 462 in Las Palmas (-0.46%). ).
In the annual evolution, unemployment also decreased more in the western province with 21,766 people (-19.30%) than in the eastern province, where the drop benefited 22,202 people (-18.28%).
