The unemployment registered at the employment offices of Canary Islands fell by 1,148 people in Augustor what it means a decrease of 0.60 percent compared to Julywhile the national average rose by 1.40 percent.
Unemployment during the past month fell in the Canary Islands (1,148), La Rioja (90), Aragón (432) and Navarra (479) and August ended with 40,428 more people on the unemployment lists in Spain, according to data published this Friday by the Ministry of Labor.
With data from August to August the number of unemployed in the Canary archipelago stood at 190,289, and compared to the same month last year there are 43,968 fewer unemployed people, 18.77 percent.
By provinces, unemployment fell in 686 people in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, 0.46 percent, and 462 in Las Palmas, 0.75%and the number of unemployed people in Las Palmas stood at 99,268, and in Santa Cruz de Tenerife at 91,021.
The decline occurred in all sectors
Unemployment fell last month in the Canary Islands in all sectors, especially in services (890), while in the previous jobless it fell by 163, in agriculture by 79, in industry by 12, and in the construction in 4.
By province, in Las Palmas unemployment fell in the service sectors (382), without previous employment (82) and agriculture (32), while it rose in industry (30) and construction (4), with which produced a drop of 462.
In Santa Cruz de Tenerife the decrease occurred in all sectors, and thus in services the decrease was 508 people, in without previous employment 81, in agriculture 47, in industry 42 and in construction 8.
By sex, of the 190,298 unemployed people, 110.51 are women, of whom 58.16 reside in Las Palmas and 52,415 in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and 79,748 are men, and of these 41,142 live in Las Palmas and 38,606 in Santa Tenerife Cross.
By age, there are 9,352 under-25s (5,086 in Las Palmas and 4,266 in Santa Cruz de Tenerife), and of the total 4,569 are women (2,465 in Las Palmas and 2,104 in Santa Cruz de Tenerife), while 4,783 are men ( 2,621 in Las Palmas and 2,162 in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

In the Canary Islands, 62,838 contracts were signed in August, which is 4,709 less than in the previous month, a 6.97 percent decrease, but hiring increased compared to the same month last year, and it did so by 18.74 percent by signing 9,919 more contracts.
Of the total contracts signed in August in the Canary Islands, 28,080 were permanent and 34,758 temporary.
Benefits
Regarding benefits, in July, the last month with closed data, 105,722 people received an unemployment benefit in the Canary Islands, of which 45.54 received a contributory benefit, 51,247 a subsidy, and 9,421 an active insertion income.
Spending on benefits exceeded 90 million euros, of which 53.2 were allocated to contributory benefits, 32.6 to subsidies and 4.4 million to insertion income.
The average amount of the contributory benefit remained below the national figure: 820.5 euros in the Canary Islands and 862.3 in Spain as a whole.
