The General Directorate of Heritage of the Government of the Canary Islands has opened a sanctioning file on the company promoting the tourist project ‘Cuna del Alma’ that has begun to be built in Puertito de Adeje, ‘Canarias Now’ has advanced and sources confirm to Europa Press of the Ministry of Education, Universities, Culture and Sports.
The sanction proposal is due to the destruction of an archaeological site and can reach a maximum amount of 600,000 euros.
The Executive now gives the company a period of 15 days to present allegations and in the event that the file ends with the sanction, it must pay for the replacement of the damage caused in the area.
The General Directorate of Heritage has verified, according to the publication, that the promoter began the works without a favorable report on archaeological heritage from the Cabildo de Tenerife, without the advice of an archaeologist on site and with full knowledge of the existence of archaeological elements and ethnographic.
The works of the tourist urbanization were paralyzed in a precautionary way in May by the Cabildo as a result of the complaint by the Tegüico Heritage Association and once the suspension of part of the land was lifted, a citizen camp in the area tries to prevent the works.
