The council works on the general improvement of the horizontal signaling of the island’s road network, which has nearly 900 kilometers of roads. To do this, the Island Government has a project that has a budget of 1,038,156 euros, a document that is currently in the period of public exposure.
The First Vice President and Island Councilor for Highways, Enrique Arriaga, points out that the objective of this project is to proceed to repaint the signs that are in a greater state of deterioration. Likewise, action will be taken to reinforce the most dangerous areas and intersections on the island’s roads to ultimately increase road safety.
Enrique Arriaga defends that “it is about taking on important actions” that have repercussions for the benefit of drivers and pedestrians. The projected intervention “makes driving easier for users of these roads”, a fundamental premise. “From the Cabildo we continue working so that the island’s road network is in optimal conditions, to facilitate mobility and ensure safety” for its users, adds the vice president.
This action is currently in its final administrative procedures prior to the start of work, explains the island councilor for Highways. It states that, “once it begins, gradually and within a year, action will have been taken throughout the island network.”
An aspect in which Tomás Félix García, the insular director of Roads, has an impact, who explains that “the works will be carried out throughout the entire geography of Tenerife, starting with those points that are most conflictive or that present greater wear and aging” .
The data provided by the island area reflects that the intervention will cover almost 600,000 linear meters of road markings, a figure to which 10,000 square meters of symbols and road markings are added. All this, “to improve the safety of the roads of Tenerife”, concludes the Minister of Roads of the Cabildo, Enrique Arriaga.
A work that in many areas of the road network is a priority issue. Horizontal signage requires maintenance that users have been demanding insistently in recent years.
