The residents of the historic hamlet of Icor, in Arico, as well as the surrounding areas of Los Morales, Los Jorge and a good part of the towns in that mid-range area, will demonstrate this Saturday to demand that the Arico City Council invest more in rural hamlets, demanding that the recurring promise be fulfilled once and for all, for 15 years, to resurface the roads, streets and paths that start from the TF-28 highway, “authentic goat paths, true minefields,” says Pedro Díaz, one of the representatives of what was, until recently, a neighborhood association.
The president of the now-dissolved neighborhood association, Germán Borges, and the secretary, Pedro David Díaz, explain that “the demands they put forward, unanimously backed by the residents, are basic services to make life easier, fix the population in this area , generate rural economy and avoid the systematic abandonment of farms and houses”.
These unfulfilled commitments, some of which were contracted 15 years ago with the neighborhood association, include improving the state of the pavement of the streets and, above all, of the road that connects Las Eras with Icor and from there the roads to reach Chajaña, Los Morales, Lomo Centeno, Madre del Agua and La Florida, in addition to undertaking access to the Fuente Nueva village after years of waiting for this work, as well as improving the water network, “where there is one, because there are still places where it does not reach”.
Historical Icho Lawsuits
Likewise, he recalled that “these are demands that we have been demanding for years, tired of Councilor Juan José Armas announcing a few days ago that the tracks were going to be re-potted,” said Díaz, to add “it would be better to ask the Virgin of Abona, that today it is in Ichor”.
Even so, the residents of that area are united, as they demonstrated a few weeks ago when fifty of them met and decided, after a short debate, to organize that demonstration by car that will leave on Saturday at ten in the morning from Icor to the City Council of Arico, with people from all the surrounding rural hamlets, as well as all those lovers of the rural environment who want to sign up.
As reported, there will be, around 12:30 pm, a rally in front of the Consistory, with the reading and delivery of the Icor manifesto for “the dignity of rural life in the hamlets of Arico.”
