The City Council of Santa Cruz de Tenerife carried out yesterday a cleaning mess in the neighborhoods of Miramar and Chamberi. The complaints of the residents of the area, due to the dirt with which they say they find each morning, seemed to have been heard, although, according to some inhabitants of the area, it was only a “facelift” when the problems are “with the rats and cockroaches.” The residents of Chamberí say they can’t take it anymore.
Yesterday, from early in the morning, some signs indicated the prohibition of parking, something that generated some inconvenience, although this is necessary to be able to carry out this merrymaking. The problem, according to residents of Chamberí, came when the main problem was not tackled: rodents and cockroaches.
Late yesterday, a sign left by some neighbors could be read: “The neighborhoods and their streets are not only maintained by cleaning-cutting weeds, they are also fumigated. At night we have to dodge cockroaches and rats.” A poster that the cleaning workers will have found today.
One of the neighbors recognized that the problem with the cleanliness in the place is “very important”, but the presence of rats is more important: “I go out to walk the dog and I see them. And not just one, there are several. I better not talk about cockroaches because they have been coming for years and there are many of them”.
The residents of Chamberí will once again witness a cleaning riot in their neighborhood, but they continue to clamor for something as basic as it is necessary to be able to live a minimum of hygiene in their streets: “We want them to eradicate, disinfect, because this is sad to see. We pay taxes like any other neighbor in Santa Cruz, which is not just the center.”
