The Provincial Federation of Metal and New Technologies Companies of Tenerife (Femete) maintains three Training Programs in Alternation with Employment (PFAEs) for 45 young people under 15 years of age. The plans are developed with the collaboration of Aldeas Infantiles and the Don Bosco Foundation. The subjects taught during the eleven months of preparation are assembly of electrotechnical and telecommunications installations, as well as photovoltaic solar installations
The Youth Guarantee plans (PFAE-GJ) are subsidized by the Canary Islands Employment Service and the State Public Employment Service (SEPE) and co-financed by the European Social Fund. Fifteen young people participate as student workers in each project.
Network Village.
The PFAE-GJ Femete Aldea en Red performs the assembly tasks of two structured cabling systems – voice and data network – in the Day Center and in the Youth Program Center of Aldeas Infantiles SOS, in La Laguna. Once completed, it will provide the buildings with a telecommunications infrastructure adapted to new technologies. It will allow users of the facilities to access telephone services, high-speed internet, a fast and secure intranet, television, teletraining, telecommuting, etc.
At the same time, the laying of approximately 2,500 meters of cable has already been carried out, as well as another 200 meters of fiber optics. In addition, the assembly of the communication rack cabinets for the Data Network equipment has been carried out. In turn, the connectors have been mechanized in the workstations and in the Wi-Fi points to enable the users of Aldeas Infantiles to access the network.
Once the assembly of the two wiring systems has been completed, the domotic and inmotic systems will be carried out in a building and a home of Aldeas Infantiles SOS. They will make it possible to automate the home with the consequent energy savings, as well as to program various devices so that they turn on or off at the right time.
Sun Village.
The students of the PFAE-GJ Femete Aldea Solar have worked on the mechanical assembly of the photovoltaic solar installations in the Aldeas Infantiles SOS Tenerife center. Until now, they have been in charge of carrying out the previous tasks of the structure in the area of the Children’s Center, such as the layout of the location of the photovoltaic panels, the verification of measurements of the structure, the cutting of the aluminum profiles, the drilling of holes for the fixing of the structure to the existing building: the verification of alignment and the machining of supports. After finishing these tasks, a canopy-type structure will be placed for the subsequent installation and maintenance of the photovoltaic solar panels, which will provide the building with clean and self-managed electrical energy. The students have combined their work with the implementation of the so-called business simulation, a methodology that allows them to coordinate their own tasks, plan them and manage them thanks to a rotating method of functions and real jobs.
In first person.
The level of satisfaction that the student-worker shows with the project stands out, as Aynara Rivero Alonso comments: «When I started I thought it was going to cost me more, that everything would be more difficult, but now I feel qualified and I see that when I do the real work on the play, that’s when I really get it all.” Her partner Tanausú Almenara Abreu says: «Teachers teach us a lot, I started from scratch without knowing and I have grasped what I have been learning. I feel comfortable in the sector. I entered the PFAE because I liked it and I want to live from it».
Don Bosco Connect.
The PFAE-GJ Femete Don Bosco Conecta carries out the work at the Fundación Don Bosco facilities in La Laguna. The first tasks were the layout, location and identification of the telecommunications elements and their auxiliary systems, as well as the planning and organization of the work. The replacement of the wiring, the assembly and maintenance of the Racks, machining and certification of several offices is carried out. In addition, to install the Racks in the classrooms. At the same time, the existing pipes have been improved and some new ones installed. The next objective is to advance in the rest of the classrooms and workshops of the building, in addition to the annex building, as well as to interconnect the entire installed system with fiber optics.
Professional certificates.
At the end of these courses, the young people will have obtained certificates of professionalism and will benefit from complementary training in occupational risk prevention, work at height, environmental awareness and equality. They will also gain skills and knowledge to develop a successful career in the telecommunications and renewable energy sector. All with the purpose of promoting their labor insertion with the incorporation to companies or in entrepreneurship.
These training projects also promote equal opportunities between women and men, which is why it is encouraged that 55% of the people who participate are female.
