This is not just any sportsman, because not all human beings, precisely, have sufficient capacity to achieve the title of International Chess Grand Master.

Is named Andrey Sumetsis 32 years old and without a doubt his story transcends the barriers of sport because, as municipal sources have confirmed to this newspaper, thanks to the efforts made by the La Laguna City Council, this elite athlete has not had to join the ranks to fight against the invaders of your country on account of Russian aggression.

This does not mean that, in reality, Sumets is also providing a service for his country and in the best way that he can do, since he plays under the Ukrainian flag the IV International Open of La Laguna, which has been held since the past Saturday with a remarkable success of participation, both for the number of registered and for the remarkable level of the same, given that among them there are twenty graduates.

It should be remembered that the current legislation in force in Ukraine prevents any man of military age – that is, between 18 and 60 years of age – from leaving the country without a specific permit, which shows that the steps taken by the Lagoon Consistory have been decisive so that fans of the 64 squares can now enjoy his high level as a chess player in the City of Los Adelantados.

Although, as much as he wants to and is -like any chess player- a formidable specialist when it comes to concentrating on the chess pieces, he will hardly be able to prevent his mind from reminding him, at some point, that his people suffer from the violence unleashed on them by the dictator Vladimir Putin.
