The Municipality of Los Realejos will give a facelift to the square of the church of Our Lady of Good Journey, in Icod el Alto, to make it more accessible by overcoming obstacles with a new access ramp, one of the main demands of the population. With an investment of 173,158 euros and through the Neighborhood Plan, the consistory of the north of Tenerife will give a second life to this space, endowing it, in addition, with better pavement, garden areas and a playground.
The mayor of Los Realejos, Adolf Gonzalez, the councilors of the Icod el Alto area, Alexis Hernández and Olga Jorge, visited this site this week, whose comprehensive remodeling will begin when the festivities that are celebrated in their honor these days are over. “The main problem with this square is accessibility, which has been one of the main demands of the public and has become one of the premises of the project, which will significantly improve this section,” explained González. But it is not the only thing that, from the consistory, they have wanted to improve. As the mayor explains, in addition to remodeling the structure of the square to save the different levels, it will also “have a new playground and garden areas, new urban furniture will be provided and different architectural elements will be reformed to also improve visibility”.
This facelift will also make it possible to overcome some deficiencies in the square. According to the area councilors, “subsidences have been detected especially in the lower module, which causes the pavement to puddle on rainy days and that in turn generates leaks.” Nor is the lighting adequate, nor is there a “uniform urban aesthetic.” Hence, this plan also contemplates the demolition of curbs, new electricity and irrigation pipes, the demolition of the pavement, the waterproofing of the surface or the replacement of lampposts with others with greater energy efficiency. In the next few days, a public tender will also be held for the resurfacing and improvement project for Calle El Calvario, which is adjacent to this Plaza de Nuestra Señora del Buen Viaje, and its continuation towards Callejón del Burro.
