SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 27 Aug. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Ryanair plane that was blocking a runway at Tenerife South Airport after aborting the takeoff maneuver around 12:45 p.m. this Saturday has been removed and is operating again.
As sources from Aena have indicated to Europa Press, from the beginning the operators worked to be able to tow the device and remove it from the track.
In this sense, the blockade for several hours has caused the delay in the departure of flights and the diversion of those that were about to arrive at other airports in the Canary Islands, mainly Tenerife North and Gran Canaria.
In this regard, air traffic controllers have indicated on their social networks that despite the fact that the runway is already free and operational, it will take time to recover normality, since the diverted planes must return to the airport.
As for the causes of the incident, although the details have not been revealed, the crew decided to abort the takeoff for safety reasons.
Apparently, according to the controllers, by requiring the brakes to abort the takeoff, they would have reached a high temperature that caused them to lock up and leave the plane immobilized in the middle of the runway.
Finally, Eurocontrol decided not to authorize takeoffs to Tenerife South Airport until the problem could be solved.
