Demolish a building that dates back to 1922 and housed the first telephone station in the municipality, in order to expand the highway. It is what they denounce from noincinerationTenerife in relation to a traditional house in La Victoria de Acentejo in which the City Council has put a sign announcing its intention.
“Apparently, the work has already started and in front of a few neighbors who do not leave their astonishment and their indignation, it is clear that for the vast majority, at least that is what it seems, everything that is getting the car comfortably is the basics and primordial”, they indicate from the aforementioned medium.
The one who also does not come out of his astonishment is the mayor, Juan Antonio García Abreu, who questions “why they do not let the municipality advance when everyone knows that it is not included in any catalog and it is not a Canarian house although it may have a Canarian format of the side of the General Highway but not in the back, on Tanque Ánimas street, where not even a fire truck can pass. In this sense, he considers that “in the 21st century, the municipality cannot allow this type of situation. We have to keep moving forward.”
“Absolute defender” of heritage
Abreu underlines that he is “an absolute defender” of the local heritage and of the Canarian houses and proof of this is that the City Council is working together with the Cabildo de Tenerife to rehabilitate the Casa del Deán Calzadilla, the surroundings of the entire square and declare it an Asset of Interest Cultural (BIC) to the Victoriera Chair.
The Consistory acquired this property, of a private nature and that has been “a stumbling block” in the environment where it is located. “All the neighbors know that the place was a dunghill and the objective is to demolish it in order to create sidewalks and for people to circulate safely, which is the main objective,” the mayor certifies.
“We are going to move forward because we are convinced that we are correct, we are not breaking the law and we are complying with the will of the people,” the president stressed.
