The City Council of La Laguna will sign a new collaboration agreement with Ecoembes to continue developing measures that improve the selective collection of light packaging and paper and cardboard in the municipality by placing new containers. Ecoembes is the non-profit environmental organization that coordinates in Spain the recycling of plastic containers, cans and briks (yellow container) and cardboard and paper containers (blue container).
The agreement, whose terms have been approved by the Local Government Board, aims to increase the amounts recovered and achieve an improvement in the percentage of waste recycling.
The mayor, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, assures that “the Government wants to continue advancing in its commitment to sustainability and the correct management of waste, fostering agreements that favor the cleaning of public spaces and contribute to raising public awareness of the importance of recycle correctly as an exercise in responsibility towards the environment”.
The Councilor for Municipal Services, Josimar Hernández, points out that through this agreement “the provision of selective collection containers is improved to reach all areas of the municipal area and make it easier for residents to get involved in recycling our waste. ”.
The councilor points out that the agreement complements the one previously signed with the entity for a value of 45,000 euros, with the provision of more than thirty containers.
In accordance with the terms of the agreement, Ecoembes undertakes to deliver to the City Council new containers for the collection of light packaging and paper and cardboard worth 8,481 euros. In addition, it will collaborate with the Municipal Services area in the continuous monitoring of the results of selective collection, in terms of quality and quantity. The containers will be delivered once the agreement is initialed.
On the part of the Consistory, its commitment is to place the containers in the different points of the public road agreed by both parties; keeping the inventory updated and guaranteeing the provision of a quality selective collection service, in particular with regard to the collection frequency to avoid overflows and the cleaning and maintenance of the containers and their surroundings, in such a way as to facilitate and encourage the user participation in this action.
