SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 24 Aug. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Ministry of Justice has awarded the President of the Parliament of the Canary Islands, Gustavo Matos, a practicing lawyer since 1997, the Cross of Honor of the Order of Saint Raymond of Peñafort for Legal Merit.

On June 29, the Ministry officially notified Matos of this recognition granted by Order of June 27, 2022.

The distinction, known in the legal world as ‘La Raimunda’, was granted by agreement of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Bar Association, to which the president belongs since his association in 1997.

This medal distinguishes his legal work and his contribution to the application of Law as a lawyer in the field of his professional practice, also from the public sphere in which he has held different responsibilities, collects a note from the Chamber.

The Order of the Cross of San Raimundo de Peñafort was created by Decree of January 23, 1944 to reward the relevant merits contracted by those who intervene in the administration of Justice and in the cultivation and application of the study of Law.

In the case of the president of the Parliament of the Canary Islands, his professional contribution as a lawyer and the application and innovation of Law from his public responsibilities have been valued.

Matos, who has a Master’s Degree in Law and Civil Liability from the universities of Salamanca and Granada, has deserved the award for his legal contributions in the public sphere, such as in the current legislature in the modernization of the Regulations of Parliament or in his time as General Director of the Government of the Canary Islands in the application of the right to protect consumers and users or the re-launch of arbitration boards as a system of extrajudicial conflict resolution.

The award ceremony will take place on September 15 by Minister Pilar Llop.
