In the final stretch of the presentation of the 2022 Summer Carnival, which will be held this Thursday, the Councilor for Porto Festivities, Alberto Castilla, confirmed that at the close of the registration of candidates for the title of king, sixteen applicants have registered, the same number than in the last edition, yes, with the notable absence of the winning designer, Daniel Pagés.
Castilla remembers that this is the seventh edition that Puerto de la Cruz celebrates the Summer Carnival from Tenerife, which was renamed as such coinciding with the first year of this call under the tutelage of the socialist Marco González’s team; until 2018 it had a projection that was limited to the tourist city of the North.
Jonás Emanuel, author of the poster
The Tenerife Summer Carnival, which will be held from Thursday August 25 to Sunday 11, already has an announcement poster. The work bears the signature of Jonás Emanuel, an artist from Porto born in September 1988 and an advanced technician in Illustration from the Fernando Estévez School of Art.
This creator was winner of the public contest that was convened to choose the Carnival poster which took place in March; Given the fleeting celebration, coinciding with the time of return to normality after the worst time of incidence of the pandemic, the organization of the Porto Carnival has decided to revalidate the commission to Jonás Emanuel, this time directly, to make a claim for his summer version of the one he created for last winter. The work reverses the covers of the Caribe Mix summer compilations, which were released every summer with the most popular songs, in the nineties.
In the work, a young woman stands out who seems to be calling from a phone booth from the end of the last century, shares the spotlight on the poster with La Veneno, a character who burst onto television in 1996, and in the background, Lake Martínez, where most of the acts take place. All icons of the nineties to which this edition is dedicated.
For Jonás Emanuel, the Summer Carnival is not strange to him, since he has been the author of the posters for the last five editions (since 2017 and with the exception of 2021); This man from Porto is the artist who coins the largest number of posters announcing the Carnival in Canary Islandsaccording to the organization of Puerto de la Cruz.
The scheduled events
Along with the starting gun of the Carnival of Summer of Tenerife that will lead the mayor of Puerto de la Cruz, Marco González, this Thursday, next Monday the inauguration of ExpoCarnaval is scheduled, which will take place in the Martíanez Shopping Center.
The program highlights the celebration of the Carnival Ambassadors election gala. It is not about the election of the adult queen, to avoid subtracting prominence from the sovereign who was proclaimed in March, but rather the ambassador who is proclaimed on Wednesday, September 7, will be in charge of participating in the tourist promotions that Puerto de la Cruz, as in the case of Fitur, next January in Madrid. The weekend of Wednesday 9 and Saturday 10 September are designed so that Carnival reigns in Puerto de la Cruz as a benchmark throughout the Canary Islands, thanks to the drive promoted by Enrique Camacho, artistic manager of the entire program for the second consecutive year.
