La Villa allocates 600,000 euros to improvement works in public schools

The City Council of La Orotava allocates 600,000 euros to the works of reform, conditioning and improvement (RAM) in the public schools of the municipality, which in four years exceeds 1.6 million euros. “In this way, from the local institution we maintain our commitment to maintain and conserve the public educational centers of the Villa,” said the mayor, Francisco Linares, in a press release. “The objective is to meet the demands of the centers themselves, and also to promote the comfort and well-being of the educational community in which there are more than 7,000 students, for a better development of their different functions and activities in each school”, he pointed out. the local alderman.

The action takes place in the thirteen public schools in the municipality, such as Víctor Rodríguez, in Benijos; that of Aguamansa; Manuel de Falla, by Barroso; Leoncio Estévez Luis, from Florida; Saint Thomas of Aquino; San Agustin; The light; Innocent Sosa, from San Antonio; Santa Teresa de Jesús and Infanta Elena, from La Perdoma; Ramon y Cajal; Domínguez Alfonso, and La Concepción.

The actions in each center consist of adaptation, repair, maintenance and renovation works of these educational centers, such as roofing of sports areas or patios, repair of bathrooms and walls, creation of spaces, repair of leaks and elimination of humidity, repair of doors and windows, improvement of security, adaptation of pavement and rehabilitation of devices, renovation of fences and bars, elimination of architectural barriers and adaptation of classrooms and other spaces… In general, these are refurbishment actions or new works, with the common denominator of offering greater comfort, operability and well-being in each school.

The RAM works are coordinated jointly between the Department of Education, which is directed by Mayor Francisco Linares himself, and Municipal Services, which is directed by Yurena Luis. “And to these projects that are carried out in the summer, during the school year break, other maintenance work is added that is carried out throughout the year in these educational centers, included in what is called SOM works, with actions of improvement of supply, sanitation and lighting, among other things, ”says the note.

Yurena Luis details that RAM projects are drafted and supervised by the municipal technical office. While the companies awarded the works are mostly from the municipality itself and must meet the deadlines and requirements for the school year to start normally, with the exception of larger actions. For all these reasons, regular visits are made to the schools to assess the situation.
