SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 23 Aug. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The president of the Agrupación Socialista Gomera (ASG) –formation that governs the Canarian Executive–, Casimiro Curbelo, has pointed out that if there is talk of decentralization at the national and regional level, he understands that the National Center of Volcanology should be located in the island of La Palma.
Curbelo believes that “it is good” to think about decentralization, since he has stated that in these weeks he has observed the debate on the location of the National Center of Volcanology in the Canary Islands and has pointed out that “nobody wants to put a little logic into it”.
In relation to this, the also president of the Cabildo de La Gomera has considered during an interview in ‘La Mañana de la Cope’ collected by Europa Press, that said center should be located on an island that “really has a scientific interest and decentralization takes place “.
For this reason, he understands that “there should be no room for discussion” in which the National Center of Volcanology is installed in La Palma, since he has pointed out that in the regional framework, for example, except for the Common Council which is in La Palma, the rest of Canarian organisms “are in Gran Canaria and Tenerife, and also in duplicate”.
“If the president of our country is talking about administrative decentralization for an emptied Spain, if we are talking about demographic growth and decentralization from capital islands to non-capital islands, there should be no doubt, none. What happens is that the Politics gets into everything and then come the macho politicians, no, the Canary Islands have to grow with equal opportunities,” he added.
He has also pointed out that the double insularity suffered by the non-capital islands of the archipelago means that they currently have an “aging population that is decreasing”, so issues such as “inflation and high prices in basic products have a negative impact for growth and development in these islands”, in such a way that he has pointed out that “they do not” have “equal opportunities”.
In relation to this, when asked why there could not be a president of the Canary Islands from an island outside the capital, he indicated that “this is also part of the selfishness of the political parties” and although he has stated that the regional government “is now in good hands , in Ángel Víctor Torres”, if he had the option after having been mayor, president of the council, deputy, senator, he “only needs to be president of the Government”, something that “he would love”.
“Are there possibilities? There are, there are not many, among other reasons because we have a political party whose political and electoral projection is on an island (…) Nobody is bitter about a sweet but sometimes sweets have to be buy them, you have to buy them to be able to consume them,” he added.
In any case, he has indicated that he faces this electoral year like all his political responsibilities, “with great decision” and “great enthusiasm”, because the Canary Islands “have more problems every day”, in relation to the demographic challenge, immigration or territorial planning. He added that ASG “does not” only aspire to govern La Gomera, since the citizens “know” that “all” the “capacity for the Canary Islands to grow” is being provided from an island.
