With the aim of focusing on the accessibility of its neighborhood, Taco for all proposes carrying out a diagnosis of the inclusion of people with disabilities in the public space of this territory. It is an analysis in which he encourages the whole of society to join and which will be accompanied by a proposal, also open to participation, to design a route that includes functional diversity.
This initiative arose after the 3rd Thematic Meeting Let’s Talk about an Accessible Taco for All, held in this neighborhood in the form of a human library, in which the people who are the protagonists of the realities encompassed by accessibility have told their own story and the challenges they face. This activity, organized by the group Taco para todxs, of the strategy for the promotion of intercultural coexistence Together in the Same Direction -which is promoted by the council with the support of the University of La Laguna through its General Foundation and the Immigration Observatory of Tenerife (OBITen)–, has had the collaboration of the Association of Acquired Brain Damage-Tenerife (Adacea-TF), the Coordinator of People with Physical Disabilities of the Canary Islands (CoordiCanarias), the Federation of Associations of Deaf People of the Canary Islands (Fasican), Full Inclusion of the Canary Islands and DanSign. In addition to the Department of Social Welfare and Quality of Life of the City Council of La Laguna, which has provided a sign language interpretation service.
“Activities like these should be done more often, because it is super important to publicize everything we went through, not only to feel useful, but so that people who have experienced something similar become aware that life goes on, that not everything stays there and you have to move forward. It is also important for there to be more information about these situations”, says Cristina Fernández Zambudio, one of the participants in this III Thematic Meeting Let’s talk about a Taco accessible to all.
Taco Citizen Participation for all “responds to its objective of promoting community involvement and collaborative work between the neighborhood and the groups of this neighborhood, with special attention to the high cultural diversity that is found there,” reported its managers.
