Last summer it was the rehabilitation and sanitation works on the Avenida Marítima that caused the massive presence of cockroaches and rats in that area of Playa de San Juan, full of catering establishments. Now, a group of neighbors complains bitterly that the poor garbage collection service and the shortage of containers in that coastal neighborhood of Guide to Isora invite rodents to rummage through the garbage bags that are deposited on the sidewalks, for example on Venezuela Avenue.
This is how a neighbor denounced it in this newspaper: “I live in Playa San Juan and I no longer have a place to go to file a complaint; I have gone to the Town Hall, I made an appointment with the mayors, I met with the Councilor for the Environment and they did not give me any solution”, she comments bitterly.
He points out that “I have garbage containers under my windows and all day I have to put up with flies and cockroaches, and at night rats come out like rabbits; We can’t take it anymore”, all, according to her, because “the containers fill up and people put the garbage on the ground”.
This situation regarding the collection of solid waste and cleaning in Guía de Isora has also been denounced by the Canarian Coalition. The nationalists criticize that “the image of neglect, abandonment and dirt that the neighbors denounce is increasing when they verify that the garbage containers are not emptied more frequently to prevent garbage from being deposited outside of them. They also complain that these containers are not washed or cleaned and a foul smell is generated in the vicinity of the locations of said containers.
To this we must add, continues CC, that “the sidewalks, streets and common spaces present a lamentable image that requires more frequent and effective actions.”
They recall that, in the last plenary session of the City Council, CC asked the Government group to “put more effort and work into improving this situation and to increase the collection and cleaning tasks to guarantee an optimal service and that no incident is caused on public health and, on the other hand, avoid the unfortunate image of a municipality that aspires to tourist and residential excellence”.
“From the local government of the PSOE they limited themselves to holding citizens and businesses responsible for this situation, to deny a reality that is seen in many enclaves of the municipality and to throw balls out,” says CC.
