The Festivities of the Christ of Tacoronte yield this year tribute to the nougat Maribel Lopezendearing neighbor of the municipality, recently deceased. This was confirmed yesterday by the mayor, José Daniel Díaz, and the Councilor for Culture and Festivals of the City Council, Sandra Izquierdo, who presented the poster and the festive program that will begin on September 1 and will run until October 2.
The call, held at the Casa de la Cultura, also served to publicize the candidates for queen of this edition in the different categories.
“The Fiestas del Santísimo Cristo de los Dolores de Tacoronte constitute a local and insular tradition that has been well-rooted since ancient times; those of this year are very special, because, we already left behind some complex years and we will be able to relive the festivities with the intensity they deserve and with our own idiosyncrasy as a people”, assured José Daniel Díaz.
Tribute to the figure of the nougat maker Maribel López
For her part, Sandra Izquierdo expressed her hope that this year, the appointment with the Christ of Tacoronte “will be a moment of reunion with the neighbors, with the family.” An event in which the figure of the disappeared Maribel López will be very present.
In their speeches, both leaders also recalled those who are no longer here and, among these people, highlighted the figure of the nougat Maribel Lopez.
The councilor detailed the program, aimed at all types of public and which includes religious, sports and festive events, and with space for the little ones every weekend, a festival and concerts for young people, days dedicated to wine, traditions, and the long-awaited Galas for the election of the Fiesta Queens in honor of the Holy Christ of Tacoronte.
Four categories of contests are established to choose the Queens of the Festivals: adults, children, the Queen of the Art Festival and the Harvest Festival.
In the first section, the candidates are Ángeles Ramos Díaz, Dulce Dorta Expósito, Jacoba García González, Julia Tapia Mascareño, Onésima Díaz Mejías and Violalba Estevéz Guanche, while Dacotha Martín Arvelo, Gabriela Peña Arvelo, Gisela Domínguez Siverio, Dacotha Martín Arvelo, Leyre Torres Armas, Martina Martín Hernández, Martina Rodríguez Rodríguez, Mayla Gutiérrez Guanche, Nizamar Hernández Méndez, Nora Hernández Suárez and Romina de la Paz Goya.
The candidates to become Queen of the Harvest are Arianna del Carmen Encinoso Estévez, Leticia Lutzardo Hernández, Noemi Goya Expósito, Paula Mireya Dorta Rodríguez, Tamara Luz García Peña and Xiomara Rodríguez Morales. Lastly, the art festival contest includes Ariana Pérez Rodríguez, Dulce Arianna Machado, Moneyba Corujo Pérez, Sheila Alonso Cruz, Yamilet Mejías Hernández and Yasmina Díaz Figueroa.
