The conservation, rehabilitation and enhancement of the natural and landscape heritage It is the axis of the Ecotur project, which is being developed in Santiago del Teide. The last of the completed actions consists of improving access to urban centers within the framework of the Santiago del Teide Ecotur Route, which had a budget of 37,596 euros.
The accesses to El Molledo, Tamaimo, Arguayo and Las Manchas have benefited from an action consisting of trail maintenance work (called PR-TF 65), which focused on undertaking cleaning and clearing work, improving the pavement of the roads and proceeding to regularize the affected surface.
Emilio Navarro, mayor of Santiago del Teide, explains that the sites subject to the development of this project “are part of a rural environment with high landscape, natural and ethnographic values». In this sense, the councilor highlights as a value of these routes the proximity of protected natural spaces such as the Teno Rural Park, in addition to the existing network of trails and rural roads, the agricultural landscape or the different elements of cultural interest that are distributed throughout the municipality.
The Ecotur Santiago del Teide route arises as part of the development of the Ecoturmac project, to which the municipality of Santiago is attached as a partner and receives financing through Interreg funds for Macaronesia. It is an initiative that seeks to establish a joint strategy and methodology for the promotion of ecotourism and active tourism.
