SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 15 Aug. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The president of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, celebrated this Monday, the day of the Virgin of the Assumption, that after “three very hard years”, Candelaria (Tenerife) once again receives pilgrims as in 2019.
Torres, who has attended the Eucharist in honor of the Virgin of Candelaria, has highlighted that on this day in which the Canary Islands celebrate their patron saint, “the important thing” is that there are as many people as in the year 2019.
“You have to go back to 2019 to see so many pilgrims celebrating these days, which are major days in the Canary Islands, with fervor, with pilgrimage, with enthusiasm, with desire and without masks, recovering normality,” he pointed out in statements to journalists.
This, the president of the Canary Islands has admitted, “seemed impossible in these three very tough” years in which there has been “zero tourism, zero economics, pandemic, migratory phenomenon, fire, even a volcano on the island of La Palma”, so that he considered that many people have gone to “thank the Virgin for the fact that normality can be achieved again”.
