The City Council of La Laguna will carry out various works, starting in September, to secure and condition the Camino del Lobo from the old Hotel Neptuno, in the coastal town of Bajamar, to restore its public use. It should be remembered that a judgment of the TSJC endorsed that said path, which gives access to El Arenal beach, is for public use. A resolution that came after the new owner of the hotel closed the road in 2019 when work began on the property, for which the local Consistory undertook the procedures for its recovery, considering that said road was not privately owned.
Thus, the mayor of La Laguna, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, affirmed that the works that are going to be carried out on the slope on the slope of the Camino del Lobo “are one more step in the process to officially recover the reestablishment of public use of this path. This, together with the future rehabilitation of the old Hotel Neptuno, will be a great boost for the development of this area of the lagoon coast”. “The City Council is carrying out joint work from the Department of Works and the Urban Planning Department so that as soon as possible we can enjoy this completely rehabilitated environment. It must be taken into account that the Neptune also has a great symbolic value as an emblem of the tourist past on our coast, so that its recovery will have enormous significance for the entire municipality”, emphasized the local councilor.
Specifically, the Councilor for Works, Josimar Hernández, has already signed the award of the works to clean up the slope of Camino del Lobo from the old Hotel Neptuno, and a company specializing in vertical works will start, at the end of September, the Necessary works to clean up the section of embankment that affects the path for public use to access the beach.
Among the actions to be carried out, there is an urgent need for the controlled demolition of some existing concrete pillars, which served as support for the old water elevation pipes, which are no longer in use and have a serious risk of falling. Likewise, the hillside will be cleaned up, through the controlled demolition of small stones that have their precipitation close to the road and with them make a small stone wall, so that the runoff does not spoil the road. The budget is around 40,000 euros and there is an estimated execution time of 45 days.
Once these works are completed, the City Council will prepare the road and place a safety railing along the route.
Works at the hotel
On the other hand, the director of the Planning Department, Santiago Pérez, explained that the company that owns the property of the old Hotel Neptuno has already transferred to the City Council the intention to undertake the rehabilitation of the building for hotel use as soon as possible and it has been verified that , although the works project has not yet been presented, the activity license is fully in force.
It should be remembered that the new owners expressed their interest in reactivating the tourist use of this old property in 2019, which closed its doors in 2007. Since then, the building has been abandoned and has been the object of various acts of vandalism, with multiple graffiti and even repeated fires, which have left it in a significant state of deterioration.
