The Festivities of the Christ of La Laguna are preparing to return in September with all its splendor. The Slavery of the Holy Christ is working on the culmination of the program of religious acts, which will return to normality, as confirmed yesterday by the senior slave, Francisco Doblas.

Thus, among the most important acts, on September 9, in the morning, the act of descent and kissing of the holy image will take place and, in the afternoon, the traditional procession of its transfer to the Cathedral. Meanwhile, on the 14th, the big day of the festivities, the reception ceremony and the solemn mass of Christ will be held in the Cathedral in the morning, after which the holy image will go out in procession back to her sanctuary. At night, mass will be celebrated in the atrium of the temple and the traditional nocturnal procession of Christ through the streets of the town center, which will end with the pyrotechnic display.

Even so, Slavery will detail its program during its presentation ceremony, expected at the end of the month, and in which this year’s poster will also be announced, which will be joint with the City Council, said the older slave.

Quinary

In addition, from Slavery they reported yesterday, in a note, that the bishop of the Nivariense Diocese, Bernardo Álvarez, and the rector of the Cristo de La Laguna sanctuary, Víctor Manuel Álvarez, have informed the older slave that Don Joan Enric Vives i Sicilia, Archbishop of Urgell-Andorra and Co-Prince of Andorra, has accepted the invitation to preach in the solemn quinary of the upcoming Feasts of the Christ of La Laguna.

The Esclavitud del Cristo de La Laguna expressed its enthusiasm at the news of the acceptance of the invitation, “because in addition to the dignity of the preacher of the next quinario, it returns to the normality of religious acts, and, with a preacher of this formation and pastoral experience, the opportunity to have a top-level speaker returns.”

Likewise, and as usual every year, His Majesty King Felipe VI has sent a communication to the senior slave informing him that he has appointed as royal representative, for September 14, the big day of the festivities, the President of the Government of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Towers.

The older slave, Francisco Doblas, reported that, as soon as he received the communication of the designation from His Majesty, he transferred it to the Canarian president, who honorably received the designation from the Head of State, to represent him at the Fiestas del Cristo.
