The municipality of Candelaria has already begun to celebrate the festivity of the Patron Saint of the Canary Islands with the proclamation pronounced last night by the palm artist Luis Morera, also the author of the poster, who toured the island’s culture during his dissertation, in which he claimed the the need to promote rigor in everything related to culture, “since our land is dangerously distant from its identity to merge into a hoarding globalization, where what is external is valued much more than what is internal, in which politics with respect to culture is generating a very negative generalized detachment in our land”.
In this sense, he stressed that “a people that does not have its culture as a priority is destined to disappear, losing all interest in those who love it and visit us.” In addition, he asked “our Chaxiraxi to illuminate her candle and lead us to a much more promising future.”
For her part, the mayor of Candelaria, Mari Brito, indicated that “these days are to widen hearts, ask the Virgin and fulfill pending promises, but also to squeeze the street, feed body and soul and take advantage of every moment”.
reunion
The councilor described the parties as those of the “reunion”. “Candelaria awaits you again. This municipality insists that everyone return to the place where they have been happy, defying the famous event, because only here will they feel directly the emotion of a town that, years later, wants to clothe its Patron with the restrained force of this waiting time ”, stressed Mari Brito.
Villa Mariana will host thousands of pilgrims these days and the City Council has organized various social and cultural activities to celebrate the Morenita festivities.
Although the central events will be held over the weekend and on Monday, the big day, the first activities will begin tonight, at 9:30 p.m. The Plaza de la Patrona de Canarias will host the concert by the group Bohemia Lanzarote, a formation that mixes root music from the Islands and sounds from other lands.
Tomorrow, at the same time, the Tarasca show will take place, by the Pieles Company, which will surprise the public with an artistic proposal that draws on oral tradition as a source of inspiration: the earth, salt, migration, the songs of work, the legends, the romances, the responses and the proverbs that connect us with the different geographical, cultural and emotional spaces impregnated with languages where diverse artistic manifestations converge.
