a score of activists have chained themselves this Thursday to paralyze the construction works of the Cradle of the Soul hotel complexin Adeje (Tenerife)which in his opinion are destroying archaeological and natural heritage without any institution preventing it.

Sources of the collectivesave the little port” have indicated to EFE that the activists have managed to paralyze with this action a third of the plot on which the shovels are working, since the other two thirds had already been paralyzed in previous days with successive protest actions.

The group affirms that protected species are being destroyed with the works and criticizes that the cactus is only mentioned among the flora affected by the earthworks, since in its opinion there are seven other species in the place.

“They are destroying the species and the archaeological site that exists in the place and that associations for the defense of heritage such as Tegüico have mentioned, which have said that there is a watchtower and an old Guanche settlement,” the sources continued.

Although the Cabildo de Tenerife ordered to stop 2 percent of the work, the work “progresses day by day and the heritage is being destroyed, along with an ecosystem that is irrecoverable.”

To save El Puertito, the correct thing would have been for the justice system to proceed with a precautionary stoppage of the works to determine “clearly and calmly” the condition of this luxury project in the area, but on the contrary, “the strategy that has been until now it is silence while heritage is destroyed day by day”.

All this “with the approval” of the Government of the Canary Islands, the Cabildo de Tenerife and the Adeje City Council, which “know perfectly well what is happening and allow the works to progress with the aim that all the land destroyed up to now is developable”, says Save the Puertito.

The association, which regrets that no institution has contacted environmental and heritage defense organizations, also stresses that this fight is a symbol of how in the Canary Islands, with “enormous” social inequality, “all efforts are focused on investing for a minority of the population: swimming pools and luxury apartments for tourists”.
