In February of this year the Municipal Planning Department reported favorably on the urban feasibility of the construction project of what will be the first zip line system of Santa Cruz, specifically in the Las Teresitas beachin whose viewpoint will be the departure station, and on the TF-121 road of Igueste de San Andrés, above the car park, the arrival, as DIARIO DE AVISOS announced at the time.
Now, six months later, a private investor has shown interest in the development of this project in the capital, at least that is what the public company Proexca has communicated to the City Council of Santa Cruz, which is the one that has requested contact from the company promoter of this system of zip lines. Proexca precisely has among its objectives the attraction of strategic investments to the Islands. and this tourism leisure project has attracted the attention of private investment. In addition to Las Teresitas, the promoters propose a second system in the Parque de Las Mesas, for which they also obtained the approval of Urbanism.
The current councilor for the area, Guillermo Díaz Guerra, confirmed to DIARIO DE AVISOS, the communication received from Proexca.
From the Public Services area, its manager, Carlos Tarife, who was in charge of Urbanism when the reports on the zip lines were issued, also yesterday expressed his satisfaction with the interest that this initiative has aroused, and not only because of the attraction of investment and visitors to Santa Cruz, but also for what it can mean to recover the Las Teresitas viewpoint.
The mayor recalled that this viewpoint is private, and that for any action the owners will have to be counted on, so it would be a good way to intervene in the area, recovering it for the city.
As described in the projects, users could descend at speeds of between 79 and 100 kilometers per hour, by a cable that measures 950 meters, in the case of Las Mesas, and 905, in Las Teresitas, in something more of a minute. The projects detail that the installation of a zip line (or zip line) has been studied on Las Teresitas beach with the start station at the viewpoint and the arrival station next to the TF-121 road in Igueste de San Andrés (on the parking). The second zip line would be the Parque de Las Mesas, with the starting station 520 meters from the park’s own road, an intermediate station located next to the Cueva Roja road, where the entrance to the Las Lecheras trail is located, and the arrival station near the soccer field, next to the existing parking lot.
In the description of this installation, it is explained that the zip line consists of a rope that connects two points at different heights, and that the visitors descend the rope using the trolley propelled solely by the action of gravity. Also, as there is no need for a motor and it consists of two poles connected by a rope and small start and finish platforms, it has a reduced impact on the landscape.
