The long-awaited Pinolere Craft Fair of La Orotava returns

The Tenerife municipality of La Orotava will host the thirty-seventh edition of the Pinolere Regional Craft Fair, which on this occasion and after two years of changes caused by the pandemic, will be held again during the first weekend of September, between the days 2 and 4.

This edition bears the motto “Sharing wisdom is an act of love” and will be dedicated to artisans who have passed on knowledge to new generations, a fact that is based on the existence of a growing concern in the artisan sector about generational change in traditional trades, as the representatives of the Pinolere Cultural Association, Leoncio Luis and Jesús García have stated in a statement.

In this sense, the association, for 10 years, has paid homage to the traditions of the municipalities of the Canary Islands, so that this year the traditions of Los Realejos will be honored with a recognition of the Hermanos Toste pyrotechnic, the oldest in the archipelago that counts, that treasures more than 200 years of antiquity.

The mayor of La Orotava, Francisco Linares, has pointed out “the exceptional and incalculable work carried out by the Pinolere Cultural Association in favor of popular culture and to recover traditions, ethnography and trades, in addition to carrying out an important work of dissemination and education, trying to share that wisdom”.

In this way, after almost 40 years this exhibition “has become a benchmark in the Canary Islands and artisans from all the islands want to be present in it”, added the mayor.

In this edition, 160 workers from all over the archipelago will participate and will have an investment of more than 84,000 euros -an amount contributed by the local council- to which is added the collaboration of the Cabildo de Tenerife, which will double its support this year.

The island councilor for Employment, Socioeconomic Development and Foreign Action of the island entity, Carmen Luz Baso, has highlighted that the increase in aid from the Cabildo was born “with the aim of undertaking new actions that allow delving into the study and investigation of craft trades that are part of our culture, history and tradition”.

He also highlighted “the importance of this fair and the work carried out by the Pinolere Cultural Association to preserve, keep alive and promote the development of the craft sector.”

Regarding the program, the fair will open its doors on September 2, and after the inauguration, tribute will be paid to eight master craftsmen from each of the eight islands.

The Cho Feriantes de Honor 2022 awards and the IXX Villa de La Orotava Craft and Heritage Award 2022 will also be awarded.

For their part, the rest of the days the artisans will make their work available to the attendees.

To attend the event, as in previous editions, the organization will make a free bus service available to the public, leaving every hour from the center of La Orotava.
