The Council of Tenerife awarded the work to regenerate the Las Eras beach breakwater, in Fasnia, to the Satocan company. The cost of the works amounts to 516,393 euros and the execution period is 8 months. It contemplates the reconstruction of the breakwater, to ensure greater protection of the bathing area and reduce the intensity of the waves, says the island’s director of Tourism, Laura Castro.
“The action responds to the demand of the residents of the municipality and it will benefit all citizens, as well as visitors and tourists in the area,” says Castro, who highlights the cooperation received from the City Council.
He clarifies that “the project adds to the actions that we have been carrying out to condition and provide modern and accessible services and infrastructures to the coastal towns of the Island that live facing the sea and boost the local economy in the beach areas in a sustainable way. The counselor emphasizes that with these actions, “from the island government we value our natural wealth and our beaches make up one of the main attractions of the destination.”
For the mayor, Luis Javier González, lhe new breakwater «is an important work for the region, for Fasnia and for the Las Eras neighbourhood, because it guarantees us the use of the beach even in adverse weather conditions». The fasniero alderman highlights the fact that “the work is not a whim, since the current breakwater has damage on one of the fronts, running the risk of splitting and taking the sand from the beach.”
The acting is part of the Tenerife and the sea program, within the strategic framework of island development of the Medi-Fdcan funds, with which the Cabildo has been working to improve the beach areas, coastal towns and coastline of Tenerife. «For the Cabildo, the protection of our coast is a priority to guarantee its enjoyment in quality and safety conditions by bathers, as well as by lovers of water sports, since this coastal enclave is a benchmark on the Island for practice of diving, so the work will include the adaptation of the breakwater to favor the entry to the sea of the athletes”, adds Castro.
