The Council of Tenerife promotes a campaign to promote volunteering during the summer. The Tenerife Solidarity Island program, dependent on the public company Sinpromi (Insular Society for the Promotion of Persons with Disabilities) launches a specific section for the summer period in order to raise awareness about the possibilities of volunteering during these months.
The island councilor for Citizen Participation and Diversity, Nauzet Gugliotta, assures that one of the main objectives of this specific campaign for the summer period is “to promote that those people who have not been able to carry out any voluntary action during the year, due to studies or work, have it easier these months to do it”. And this translates into activities in which they can participate in a timely manner and that do not necessarily entail a long-term commitment when September arrives.
In this sense, it makes it clear that from the Cabildo de Tenerife “we trust that this special summer volunteering, with unique opportunities to be caring people, can be a gateway that motivates them to continue carrying out volunteering actions outside the months of summer”.
An important collaboration
In this way, for third sector entities “this type of collaboration is of great importance since during the summer part of their volunteers who collaborate regularly take a well-deserved vacation or need reinforcement for specific activities”, specifies Nauzet Gugliotta .
Some of the activities for which the third sector entities attached to the Tenerife Solidarity Island program request volunteers are occasional collaborations in sports tournaments; support of organic gardens; urban summer camps, both for children and for people with disabilities; food collection and distribution; and, among others, actions that promote the defense of human rights.
Volunteer actions are distributed throughout the island, although requests from the metropolitan area and the south predominate. The information is constantly updated, so those interested in participating can get information through the website www.tenerifeislasolidaria.org.
