They have had to spend three years of forced break due to the COVID-19 pandemic so that the residents of La Esperanza, in El Rosario, could once again wear their typical costumes and enjoy the XLVI Pilgrimage, an edition that celebrates 48 years of existence. history.
After the traditional preamble to the Holy Eucharist in the church of Nuestra Señora de La Esperanza and officiated an hour earlier than usual to prevent the participating public from suffering during the hottest hours, and sung by the Friends of La Esperanza Folklore Group, the most awaited moment of the festivities.
It was at that moment when the ringing of the bells and the music of the band La Candelaria, from Arafo, announced that it was time to take the image of Our Lady of Hope to the portico of the Plaza del Ayuntamiento where she would preside over the Pilgrimage and It would receive the offerings of the Municipal Corporation and the twenty participating groups, which were interspersed among the 18 participating carts.
As every year, she was accompanied on the journey by the largest pilgrimage of the festivities and their court of honor and the local authorities, led by the mayor of El Rosario, Escolástico Gil, who together with the first deputy mayor, Sara Cabello, carried out the first offering to the Virgin on behalf of the Consistory.
Once this step was finished, the party began, in which twenty carts, boats, herds of goats, sheep, donkeys, dance groups and groups such as Danza de Guamasa, El Candil, Amigos de La Esperanza, Parranda Bentahod participated. , Igonce, Los Berros, Amigos del Cedro and Parranda San Juanito, among others.
Display of food
The cart of the Romera Mayor 2022, Adriana Rivero, and her court of honor opened the procession and began the display of food, either with accurate launches towards the nearby rooftops, distributing to the large audience present who approached the carts or even with flying baskets from the windows that overlooked El Calvario street.
Like every year, they did not skimp on the distribution of hard-boiled eggs, festive meat, bread with chorizo, bags of popcorn, glasses of wine or bottles of water that helped thousands of people to withstand the intense heat and at the same time, to fill their desire to party in a day in which good food, local wine and traditional Canarian music were not lacking.
Special mention was deserved, as every year, by the carts of the Montesano and Egatesa meat companies, whose staff, at street level, distributed trays of meat and other derivatives and once the Pilgrimage was over, they remained, now without the yoke, each one one side of the plaza offering food.
After the end of the pilgrimage, the great festival was held in which the public danced to the sound of the Barranco Hondo and Wamanpy Revelation orchestras.
Today, Monday, a public holiday in the municipality, the La Esperanza 2022 festivities are officially closed with the children’s festival, the guided route through the Adelantado forest and the act of burning the idler. However, Elder’s Day remains to be celebrated, which will take place this Saturday the 13th.
