The official statistics allow us to verify that the unemployment record went from 11,118 people in July 2021 to the 6,511 with which it concluded last month, as reported yesterday by the Aronero City Council.

With the data for July, the municipality of Arona has chained another month of decline in unemployment, according to data from the Canary Islands Employment Observatory for that month. In June, the decrease was somewhat lower, 3%, adds the local government in a statement.

Construction, real estate activities and those carried out by administrations and auxiliary services are the segments of the economy that acted as “the most outstanding engines in the creation of jobs” in Arona.

With these figures, Arona has chained a year of almost uninterrupted fall in unemployment. From July 2021 to July 2022, unemployment increased slightly in January, something that is understood as a consequence of the end of the commercial season of the Christmas campaign.

The government group emphasizes that, as a result of this statistic, “Arona has managed to cut unemployment figures by 41.4% in the last year, between the months of July 2021 and 2022, a period in which It has gone from 11,118 people in this situation to the aforementioned 6,511 ».

The data offered by the Canarian Employment Observatory (Obecan) is also reinforced by the number of contracts signed during the previous month, in which they grew by 1.4%, which places the year-on-year figure at a positive margin of increase of 23.17%.

The source of employment

As for the economic sectors in which there has been a greater destruction of jobs, the aronero municipal government highlights, in the first place, construction, where unemployment has fallen by 8.72% in July 2022 compared to June. In the first seven months of the current year, unemployment in construction has fallen by almost 35%.

In the case of real estate activities, the decrease registered in July was 5.68%, while between the months of July of the years 2021 and 2022 the fall stood at a percentage of 29.66%. For its part, administrative activities and auxiliary services cut the unemployment data by 4.54%, which places the interannual figure at a decrease of 40.47%.

Since the beginning of the economic crisis generated by the pandemic caused by covid-19, Arona has launched various support and support measures for small and medium-sized companies in the municipality. Specifically, in 2021 the City Council allocated 1.6 million in direct aid, although linked at all times to maintaining employment. Sectors such as taxi or fishing also benefited from specific subsidy lines to maintain and guarantee their activity.

As for the public employment plans, the Arona Economic Promotion area carried out several projects, subsidized for the most part by the Canary Employment Service, which in 2021 benefited 350 people. In the first seven months of this exercise they have included another 150, to which several dozen more will be added in the coming months.
