The president of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Pedro Martín, has appealed to the entire population of the island to contribute to prevent fires.
“Most of the fires are detected thanks to the citizens, who are the first to see them, but I would ask for one more step: if they can give us information on people or vehicles they consider suspicious, this will help us avoid intentional fires,” he said. expressed by the president this Wednesday.
Martín has detailed that the presentations made by the insular institution on the work of the forestry brigades and the firefighters elucidate that “more than 80% of the fires are caused by human causes.”
This situation reflects that, “although not all of them have to be intentional, most of them could be avoided”, which is why he has asked the population to “help” to achieve it.
“Even more so in this month of August, where temperatures will continue to be high, collaboration is necessary. Any contribution from the inhabitants of Tenerife is well received”, he pointed out.
