The mayor, Escolástico Gil, maintains that El Rosario “is in luck” after the announcement by the Island Councilor for Highways, Enrique Arriaga, to tender the comprehensive refurbishment of the TF-226 as it passes through La Esperanza, section known as El Sol street. To do this, the councilor signed an agreement in 2019 with the then island director of Mobility and Development, Miguel Becerra. With the execution of the project, “El Sol street will no longer be a road where neighbors do not dare to set foot”, as it is the main black point of the local road network due to its history of accidents.
The cost of the work amounts to 2,716,191 euros, of which the Rosariera Corporation will invest almost 773,000 euros, which will increase to 806,190 euros with the purchase of the two plots necessary to build the roundabout included in the project. Improving road safety on Calle El Sol is possible because 33 owners make a small part of their plots available. Only one property, “linked to an opposition party”, did not agree to the partial transfer of its land.
Escolástico Gil «applauds» the achievement of a project that «solves a problem of insecurity suffered by neighbors and visitors, especially in rainy seasons. It should be remembered that the TF-226 insular road constitutes an urban crossing of the nucleus of La Esperanza in its first 640 meters, coinciding in it with large flows of traffic between the towns of Agua García and La Esperanza and those of the urban road in which has become, giving rise to situations of road risk and being the main section of concentration of accidents in the municipality.
For this reason, the local government considers that its reform is a historical demand to improve, above all, the safety of people and goods. Accidents are very frequent along its route, two of them resulting in death. So much so that in 2021 alone, a pedestrian was run over and two vehicle accidents occurred on the same section.
The action contemplates the paving and its adjustments to facades; the pavement, the widening of the road, landscaped areas, supply facilities (connections and tertiary), sanitation (connections and collectors), drainage (connections), low voltage (connections and channels), lighting, medium voltage (channels), telecommunications (connections and pipes), street furniture (benches and litter bins) and replacements.
