SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Aug. 2 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of the Government of the Canary Islands has proceeded today, Tuesday, to pay direct aid of 295,889 euros, intended for 19 owners of fishing vessels with a base port in Tazacorte (La Palma), which corresponds to 100% of the losses suffered by the shipowners according to the data of the first sale of each one of the vessels affected by the volcanic eruption.
The sum of all the credits granted between the years 2021 and 2022 amounts to 673,089 euros.
The councilor of the Area, Alicia Vanoostende, reaffirmed her commitment to the fishing sector of La Palma to compensate for the loss of production after the effects of the volcanic eruption: “The main purpose of the aid that we have promoted is to reactivate the fishing activity of Tazacorte, an essential fleet for the island of La Palma and that has directly suffered the effects of this crisis; with this aid, the entire credit that was assigned to shipowners and crew members in the order of November 23, 2021 is completed.
“The fleet of the Brotherhood of the Port of Tazacorte has been unable to fish for many months, and even today, they still maintain losses derived from some restrictions. We have once again compensated for these losses in the fishing sector of La Palma”, Vanoostende explained.
