“In 6 or 7 years I think we have had more than 20 festivals and concerts and we have never come across a record like this, so lacking in documentation and certificates”. Lot García (CC), councilor for Employment and first deputy mayor of the San Miguel de Abona City Council, has been so blunt in statements on ‘Hoy por Hoy Tajaraste’, by Radio Club Tenerife , referring to the papers presented by the organizers of the Reggaeton Beach Festival The controversy is served, and this Thursday, those attending the concert, which was scheduled to be held on Saturday the 30th at Amarilla Golf, woke up to the news that it had been suspended “for security reasons”.
However, and ignoring the prohibition of the Consistory, the organizers of the event published hours later on their Instagram account an official statement in which they assure, despite not yet having said permits, that said concert has not been cancelled, and that it is still going on. “At the moment we are working together with the City Council of San Miguel de Abona to guarantee its success”, they have affirmed through a story in the social network.
The deputy mayor of San Miguel de Abona has responded to this particular communication through the radio, reminding them that they do not have authorization, and that without it, the festival cannot be held. “If we continue along this path, the Local Police of San Miguel de Abona will seal off the premises,” has warned. García has explained that the organization of the event began to sell tickets for said festival in April, when they had not even presented the documentation, something they did on May 9. At this time, the sum of seats sold amounts to about 20,000 and their prices range between 65 and 140 euros.
García explained that from the Consistory they have to guarantee that there is a minimum of security for the attendees, neighbors and even passers-by and drivers. And having seen all the files and all the documentation, many of the necessary certifications fail to guarantee minimum security. “If the installations are not certified for both sound and lighting, there is no electricity project, the self-protection plan is not approved either… and even more serious, they do not have AESA authorization either,” he indicated. (AESA is the State Aviation Safety Agency, in charge of the safety of civil aviation in Spain. The reason for this requirement is the proximity of the place where the festival is to be held with the Tenerife South Airport). In this sense, and taking all this into account, García has been clear: “With all these conditions, a festival of this magnitude cannot be approved”.
When asked if it would be possible to hold said event if the papers were presented, the mayor explained that “it would be very difficult”, since what the regulations say is that the procedure would have to start from scratch, because the papers are being presented now after the resolution of the resolution of the mayor, Arturo E. Gonzalez Hernandez. (DC).
“San Miguel de Abona is not a municipality that is against any festival. Festivals have been held in Amarilla Golf and Golf del Sur for a long time, but of course we had not come across a file that did not have the approval of AESA”, has declared. García has stressed that the City Council had never suspended any concert in this area and before concluding his intervention he wanted to remember: “We are not the bad guys in the movie.”
