Julio Pérez, spokesman for the Canary Islands Governmenthas recognized that the past has been a “good morning” in the Tenerife fire, although not “as good” as they are expecting. For Pérez, today is a day to “consolidate hope.”
The highway from La Orotava to Portillo, TF-21, will be reopened, he confirmed, not ruling out that others may soon be opened to traffic, although it will have to be evaluated by technicians during today’s session.
Marta Moreno, deputy director of Civil Protection in the Canary Islands, acknowledged that there is “little news” waiting to relocate the 38 people who are still evacuated: “Perhaps there may be a change of level, with the Cabildo managing the emergency.”
Pedro Martínez, from the Forest Brigades team, indicated that the Tigaiga hillside has “few active fires” although they do appear in another focus, just above the evacuated area: “It burns slowly, but, little by little, it progresses.”
Finally, Pedro Martín, president of the Cabildo de Tenerife, reiterated that they will wait “until noon” to find out if the people who are still evacuated from their homes “can return. In addition, it will be tonight when it will be decided if the fire can go to level 1 today.
