The city councils of Arona and Arico have issued this Tuesday, July 26, two separate communications flatly denying that they fine their beaches for making sand castles. And it is that recently Telecinco Y The sixth have spread in their news that some consistories of the Spanish geography were imposing “severe sanctions” for habitual activities, like the prohibition in Benidorm of playing paddle tennis in the water (which could cost between 700 and 3,000 euros); listening to loud music in Chipiona, which can cost bathers a penalty of 700 euros; or even urinating in the sea, a sanction that has apparently been imposed in Vigo and that carries a fine of 750 euros for those who dare to empty their bladder and give themselves away. In the case of Arona and ‘Arisco’ (name used by La Sexta in its digital edition to refer to Aricxo), the news reports claimed that fines of up to 500 euros were imposed in their bathing areas for making the traditional sand buildings.
The consistories of Tenerife assure that this information is false and that in no case was it consulted with any of the municipalities before carrying out the news.
“The City Council of Arona denies the hoax, spread in recent days, which ensures that the municipality prohibits making sandcastles on its beaches. This information confuses a permitted activity -making children’s castles in the sand- with the development of large structures size with sand, which invades the maritime-terrestrial space, for which permission must be requested from the Coastal Demarcation, not the City Council, both because it involves the occupation of public space and because, in some cases, it is associated with lucrative activities , in addition to assuming the degradation of the area”.
For its part, the City Council of Arico has published in its Web page.
“Given the information that appeared in different media and social networks that the construction of sand castles is prohibited in our municipality, the Arico City Council states that the construction of these ephemeral structures on our coasts is not sanctioned. We have magnificent beaches and If the visitor so wishes, they can build their sandcastle in total peace of mind, enjoying an excellent bathing area and unique cuisine”.
