They denounce a plague of cockroaches and other insects in Arico

They denounce a plague of cockroaches and other insects in Arico. The residents of many areas of the municipality, especially the coast, are being forced to contract disinsection in their homes due to an invasion of insects, according to the local Socialist Group, who adds that it is, above all, cockroaches that Due to the lack of campaigns municipal disinsection They roam freely through the streets of the municipality.

According to the party, there are many neighbors to denounce that an average of more than 200 euros per home has been spent in these actions in a desperate way before the proliferation of cockroaches that they are suffering. All this, despite the fact that the companies that carry them out have informed them that the problem comes from the street and that it is necessary to act on the sewage networks of public roads, an action that is municipal competence.

Faced with this situation, the councilor and socialist spokesperson in the City Council, Olivia Delgado, recalls that more than a year ago a proposal was brought to the plenary session to hire and plan the annual rat extermination and disinsection campaigns. Today, no solutions from local government and the mayor. “The normal thing would be to plan the disinsection and deratization work,” Delgado bet.

In any case, the objective must be to eliminate the pests that are concentrated in places such as storm and sewage collectors, especially before the season of high temperatures, to prevent the proliferation of insects or rats. Optimum health conditions in the municipality would thus be guaranteed, using techniques that respect the environment and people. However, “this is not being done, which is condemning our neighbors to unfortunate situations from the point of view of public health,” added the socialist councilor.

“We are facing a serious health problem and that is why we have informed the General Directorate of Public Health of this situation that our neighbors denounce so that the local government assumes its responsibility and carries out the campaigns of disinsection and deratization necessary”, specified Olivia Delgado. “It is unfortunate that the residents of Arico are condemned to live in these conditions because the local government does not do its job or fulfill its responsibilities. There are families who are making a great effort to pay out of their pockets to companies that disinfect their homes, but the problem is not resolved because it is on the street”, she argued.

The PSOE of Arico assures that to this is added the inaction of the local government in the face of sanitation problems in various areas of the municipality such as Jaca, or Las Maretas, where there are spills almost daily on public roads because there is no sanitation network in operation and the only option that the neighbors have are the wells with which they are having a lot of problems as they overflow frequently. “Sanitation is municipal responsibility and this government not only does not work but has not taken advantage of a single euro of aid that the Cabildo granted to municipalities to carry out sanitation works in the 2018-2021 period,” stressed the councilor.

Olivia Delgado remembers that “we are talking about a plan that contains works that would solve the serious sanitation problems existing in Las Maretas and that also includes sanitation works that would solve serious deficiencies in Abades, Porís, Tajao or La Caleta”. “This is more than a million euros of investment from the Cabildo that could not be executed due to the inaction and lack of management of the local government of Arico”, he valued.

“While municipal cooperation works are being carried out in all the municipalities, in Arico this government is condemning us for its mismanagement. Which reflects that this is a problem purely and exclusively of poor management and lack of capacity of the local government of Arico that is more concerned with self-promotion and posing photos than in solving the serious problems of citizenship. These years have been a real ordeal for the neighbors and an unprecedented loss of opportunities”, Olivia Delgado sentenced.
