The Cabildo proposes to coordinate with the municipalities of the Island the control and sterilization of feline colonies. The Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Javier Parrilla, convened a work table on Animal Protection and Welfare where he announced to 14 municipalities the support for those who want to strengthen the control of cats.
“Next year we will be able to launch a subsidy, by competitive bidding, to cover the costs of the CER method (Capture, Sterilization and Return)”, explains Parrilla. It will be done in accordance with the guidelines set forth by the College of Veterinarians. This subsidy would be added to the 50,000 euros that the Cabildo already allocates to the control and sterilization of feline colonies, through the Ravelo animal shelter, in El Sauzal.
The meeting also addressed the need to coordinate the regulation of dog access to beaches to meet the growing demand.
