Candelaria projects a bicycle lane between Las Caletillas and the Polígono. It is one of the most outstanding projects of the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP), which includes initiatives that aim to reduce the environmental impact of mobility, and which was fully approved.
The candelariera mayor, Mari Brito (PSOE), highlights among other projects in the document that a coastal cycling itinerary is collected, from Las Caletillas to the Industrial Estate and the center of La Viuda, both along the Avenida Marítima and along the Rambla de Los Menceyes , as well as the expansion and improvement of pedestrian corridors and the creation of comfortable spaces for the enjoyment of citizens.
Likewise, the Candelaria Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan raises the need to place dissuasive car parks along the coastal urban fabric, with public shuttle transport and bicycle and scooter rental systems, and also the establishment of regulated parking areas in the center of Villa de Candelaria and on the Rambla de los Menceyes. They are measures for the integration of motorized mobility for private use with the new models. Along the same lines, sustainable mobility itineraries will be created and promoted towards educational centers and planning for safe mobility in their environments.
Another of the actions included in the Plan is the resolution of the accesses to the bridges that were pending from the work of the third lane to unite both sides of the municipality, both in the industrial estate and in the Brillasol-Punta Larga area, as well as the extension of the service road to Los Sabandeños street. They are actions of a supra-municipal nature of “vital importance to improve the connectivity of the municipality”, according to the mayor.
The Councilor for Urban Agenda, Cecilia Otazo, recalls that Candelaria’s Local Urban Agenda Action Plan “considers sustainable mobility as one of the most important aspects to achieve its city objectives for 2030”. «The Consistory had a (SUMP) approved in 2012 that has been reviewed and adapted to the current regulatory framework and the Spanish sustainable mobility strategy. The SUMPs must be living urban development instruments that promote integrated mobility and accessibility projects, for which the implementation of the mobility office is required, framed within the new city strategy and that promotes citizen participation and social awareness”, clarified the mayor.
