The PSOE has denounced the existence of a plague of cockroaches in Aricowhich has forced “neighbors and neighbors from many areas of the municipality” although “especially on the coast” to contract disinsections in their homes in the face of an “invasion of insects”.
The councilor and socialist spokesperson in the City Council of Arico, Olivia Delgado, recalls that more than a year ago a proposal was brought to the plenary session so that the annual rat extermination and disinsection campaigns could be contracted and planned. As of today, there are no solutions from the local government and the mayor. “The normal thing would be to plan the disinsection and deratization work,” Delgado bet.
In any case, the objective should be to eliminate the cockroach infestation in Arico, which are concentrated in places such as storm and sewage collectors, especially before the high temperature season, to avoid the proliferation of insects or rats. Optimum health conditions in the municipality would thus be guaranteed, using techniques that respect the environment and people. However, “this is not being done, which is condemning our neighbors to unfortunate situations from the point of view of public health,” added the socialist councilor.
“We are facing a serious health problem and that is why we have informed the General Directorate of Public Health of this situation that our neighbors denounce so that the local government assumes its responsibility and carries out the necessary disinsection and rat extermination campaigns,” he specified. Olivia Delgado. “It is unfortunate that the residents of Arico are condemned to live in these conditions because the local government does not do its job or fulfill its responsibilities. There are families who are making a great effort to pay out of their pockets to companies that disinfect their homes, but the problem is not resolved because it is on the street”, she argued.
Olivia Delgado recalls that “we are talking about a plan that contains works that would solve the serious sanitation problems existing in Las Maretas and that also includes sanitation works that would solve serious deficiencies in Abades, Porís, Tajao or La Caleta.” “This is more than a million euros of investment from the Cabildo that could not be executed due to the inaction and lack of management of the local government of Arico”, she valued.
