SAN JUAN DE LA RAMBLA (TENERIFE), July 22 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Security Councilor of the Government of the Canary Islands, Julio Pérez, stated this Friday that the fire in the north of Tenerife that affects the municipalities of Los Realejos, San Juan de La Rambla and La Guancha is progressing well because it is still “far” from the centers of population although it advances towards the summit and approaches the Teide National Park.

Speaking to journalists on the occasion of the visit to the area by the Minister for Equality, Irene Montero, to learn first-hand about the situation and the security device, she commented that what is not so positive is that the fire “goes up through the San Juan ravine” and there it is “more difficult to attack”.

In addition, he has indicated that during the afternoon some resources had to be diverted to an outbreak of fire in El Tanque that is already under control.

Pérez has insisted that this Friday and tomorrow Saturday must be used to control the fire given that the weather conditions are going to improve until temperatures rise again on Sunday.

Montero has made a “recognition” of the work of the firefighting and emergency device and also of the Red Cross, which has organized a camp in the municipal pavilion in case evacuations have to be undertaken.

He stressed that the visit lasted a short time because he did not want to “steal time” from the teams but it has allowed him to learn how work is being done on the front line to contain the advance of the flames and that the fire ends “as soon as possible”.

He also wanted to “empathize” with the “sadness and anguish” suffered by the residents of the areas closest to the fire and showed the “support and affection” of the Government to the entire island.
