Thanks to the unification and optimization of resources, a multidisciplinary team of 16 professionals has joined the staff to work directly in coordination with the Mayor’s Office
The City Council of La Matanza de Acentejo, at the direct initiative of Mayor Ignacio Rodríguez, has been endorsing for several years the arguments of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the 2030 Agenda, with projects and policies aligned with the achievement of those SDGs that can be assumed by the municipal sphere.
The initiatives for quality education and gender equality have a long history that, logically, precedes their realization as SDG 4 and 5, and those related to the structuring of sustainable communities and the implementation of non-polluting energies (SDG 7 and 11) have been a workhorse in recent years.
The actions carried out in these areas have allowed the municipality to position itself throughout the Canary Islands as a reference in energy efficiency and reduction of CO2 emissions, although far from settling down, “we are going to multiply efforts to continue deepening the adaptation of local management to all those SDGs that they can have a concrete reflection in La Matanza”, explains the mayor.
To achieve the greatest precision and efficiency possible in the localization of the 2030 Agenda to the reality of Matanzas, Rodríguez Jorge himself coordinates a multidisciplinary team created for this purpose, which is currently working on the development of a roadmap that explores the possibilities to the maximum ” that La Matanza has, from “a local reality, to contribute with actions that are beneficial for the town and its neighbors, to the achievement of the SDGs and to the improvement of the world in which we live”, the mayor specifies.
This technical work of locating the SDGs will run parallel to the one that the city council already had in place in terms of awareness and dissemination, aimed both at the municipal staff as a whole and at all the residents.
