SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, July 20. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The riders Carlos Sáinz (Formula 1), Carlos Checa (Moto GP) and Christine GZ (rally) toured part of the future layout of the Tenerife Motor Circuit this Thursday to learn ‘in situ’ the details of this sports infrastructure that aims to promote the Council definitively.

The athletes, who have been accompanied by the insular president, Pedro Martín, and the first vice president, Enrique Arriaga, were the protagonists yesterday, Wednesday, of the presentation ceremony of the project held in the Tenerife Auditorium, which was attended by more than 1,500 people.

Pedro Martín explained that the objective of the Cabildo is to implement this project in phases, depending on the possibilities of growth: “We are not going to give up any test. We will go from less to more and investing to the extent that it is necessary to provide these infrastructures for greater competitiveness”.

The president highlighted the “enormous possibilities offered by the Circuit, whose construction responds to an important social demand, as was seen in yesterday’s presentation ceremony.”

For his part, Enrique Arriaga insisted that the Tenerife Motor Circuit is “an excellent opportunity for the island after so many years of waiting”. The vice-president thanked the riders for their support of the project: “The fact that athletes of the caliber of those we have here today believe in the possibilities of this infrastructure will allow us to continue working with even more enthusiasm to make the circuit a success”. In addition, he summoned the pilots to check the progress of the works in two years and to go around the Tenerife Motor Circuit already on asphalt.

Carlos Sáinz stated at the end of the tour -and before leaving for France, where next weekend he will contest the next Formula 1 Grand Prix at the Paul Ricard circuit- that it is “a pleasure to see how many people are excited about this project”. “I’ve enjoyed this first lap of the circuit and now it’s time to wish you the best of luck so that it goes ahead”, he said.

The former Moto GP rider Carlos Checa assured after the reconnaissance lap that, “although the terrain has to start to take shape, you can already guess that the circuit is going to be top level and it has nothing to envy to any other Worldwide”.

For her part, Christine GZ has shown her enthusiasm with the track: “Hopefully we can come to train soon because it has been special to be able to see what the circuit will be like and I would also like to be the first to turn around when the asphalt is ready”.

The Tenerife Motor Circuit, located in Atogo (Granadilla de Abona), will have a layout of 4,050 meters in length, 16 curves and will have the particularity of being one of the few in the world in which it will be run counterclockwise of the clock

In the circuit it will be possible to reach maximum car speeds of 320 km/h and minimum speeds of 95 in the steepest curve. In the case of motorcycles, the speed range ranges between 315 and 80 km/h.
