the neighborhood of Maria Jimenez will have a new sports space that will improve the facilities of a population center that has been demanding more municipal attention for years, in which the football field It is the only space to practice sports that the neighborhood has, without courts or sports centers. Yesterday, the Governing Board of the Santa Cruz City Council gave the green light to the specifications to tender the drafting of the execution project, project management and coordination of health and safety for the conditioning of a new sports facility in María Jiménez.
The mayor of Santa Cruz, José Manuel Bermúdez, recognized that this step “is a compromise reached with the residents of this neighborhood of Anaga who needed to recover a plot of land for sports and leisure use.” And it is that, despite having land available for this facility, the use included in the General Plan, which was educational, prevented it from being adapted for sports, so all steps had to be taken to unblock this change of use that has been stretched out for years.
“Now that the use of the land has been changed, it remains to write a good project that meets the expectations of the residents and that allows adding a new space for community use to this popular neighborhood of the capital,” added the mayor, who recalled that “We had the opportunity to present what the idea of this government group was a few months ago and it was well received by the neighbors who attended that meeting, in which the District Councilor, Inmaculada Fuentes, and the Works Councilor, Dámaso Arteaga, accompanied me. . Today, a few months later, we have been able to put out to tender the drafting of the future sports and leisure space of María Jiménez”.
It has been the go-ahead from the Ministry of Education of the Government of the Canary Islands so that this dotacional space goes from educational to sports which has allowed unblocking a situation that had been paralyzed for years. In this case, Education reports favorably on the replacement of the teaching equipment assigned to the plot located in the Briffard Street area, since the schooling needs, the regional council points out, are considered fully covered by the CEIP Rafael Gaviño del Bosque.
“It is an educational center that does not show any growth, since in the last five school years the number of students has fluctuated between 60 and 65, and the average entry for 3 years has been 7 students,” adds Education, which considers that the center, which has at least 9 classrooms available, is sufficient to cover the educational demand.
With this opinion, the City Council has proceeded to change the use of the land, and unblock the situation to provide the neighborhood with a sports center that it lacks, and that the neighbors have been claiming for more than a decade. This has been one of the main neighborhood claims, always present in the demands to the City Council.
Yesterday the Governing Board approved, by way of urgency, this tender, in which, once awarded, the concessionaire will have three months to write the project. An expenditure of 41,000 euros was also authorized this year, and another 30,000 charged to next year’s budget.
This month the drafting of 37 public housing units was also awarded
The Santa Cruz City Council reported last week that “another important step had recently been completed to provide 37 new social homes for the population center of María Jiménez, precisely with the award of the drafting and construction management project for this public promotion in the district of Anaga”, reported the mayor, José Manuel Bermúdez, who added that “this previous step is essential to accelerate its construction, pending the signing of the agreement with the Government of the Canary Islands”. With this new promotion, the endowments become even more necessary, if possible.
