Post-Colonial Loves portrays the politics of love in the colonial space and reflects how the violence of colonialism conditioned love relationships. The piece compiles testimonies of former Portuguese soldiers who had children with African women in times of war, as well as women of Portuguese origin who have fallen in love with black men belonging to the Liberation movements, and other relationships that have arisen from the relationship between African countries and Eastern European countries. This performance also interviews the children of those relationships trying to scrutinize what love was during the colonial and post-colonial period.
Hotel Europe is a documentary theater company that explores the limits between theater, dance and performance. In their work they use a superposition of autobiographical material, family stories, national histories, testimonies, interviews and historiographical research. They also address issues not discussed in today’s society about the recent past linked to colonialism, fascism and communism, seeking to establish bridges between the past and the present. His works have been performed in Portugal, Brazil, France, Germany, Spain, the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
