Almost 200 people have demonstrated this Tuesday against the project of the Tenerife Motor Circuit that the Cabildo promotes in the municipality of Granadilla with a cost of more than 50 million and just over five years of work.
The rally next to the Auditorium – where the project is presented with the presence of Formula 1 driver Carlos Sainz – was called by eight environmental associations on the island and in the midst of a police operation to prevent incidents given that many motor fans also gathered that support the circuit.
With slogans such as ‘Science + awareness, sustainable tourism’, ‘more orchard less cement’ or ‘protect your legacy’ and slogans such as “the piche is not for sale” or “Tenerife is not for sale, it defends itself”, the protesters have positioned themselves against a project that consumes territory and damages the island’s biodiversity while inviting motorists to demonstrate in defense of health and public services.
On the other hand, many motor fans have defended the project by shouting “Circuit Circuit” after almost 30 years of waiting to increase the safety of those who practice racing and for its economic impact on the island.
