SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, July 18. (EUROPE PRESS) –
The Ministry of Education, Universities, Culture and Sports of the Government of the Canary Islands has published today, Monday, in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands (BOC) the call for scholarships to carry out official undergraduate and master’s university studies, valid throughout the national territory , at public universities on the islands or the rest of Spain, corresponding to the 2022-2023 academic year.
Thus, this process is brought forward in relation to past courses, when it took place in the months of September or October, with the aim that the student body can have these aids as soon as possible. Despite anticipating the date, students will have a longer period to request them, since the application period will begin tomorrow, Tuesday, and will end on September 5.
These scholarships are endowed with 10.5 million euros distributed in the annuity of this year (three million) and that of 2023 (the remaining 7.5 million). Its purpose is to meet the needs of university students according to the socioeconomic and academic circumstances of each moment; defray expenses derived from transportation, payment of public prices, material and books of those who wish to carry out or are carrying out university studies; and eliminate the restrictions regarding the geographical location of the centers in which the applicants study, in accordance with the new mobility framework for the student body of the Spanish university system.
Thus, lower academic requirements are established and certain income thresholds are raised with respect to aid from the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training. The complementarity of the grants of the Government of the Canary Islands in relation to those of the State materializes in the fact that the student body that meets the requirements of this call will be the beneficiary of the former, but not those of the state call, which are more demanding.
As a novelty, for the 2022/2023 academic year, the regional scholarships cover the first, second, third and fourth enrollments in Engineering, Architecture and Science studies, and for the rest of the studies they cover the first, second and third enrollments. In the previous call, it was necessary to wait for the end of the ordinary procedure and if there was an excess budget, a proposal was submitted to the Selection Commission, for the granting of third and/or fourth registrations.
In view of the experience gained in previous calls, in which 100% electronic processing has been achieved, this call will also be managed through the total digitization of applications with their electronic presentation, except in exceptional situations. Therefore, the applicant student must have an electronic signature, which they will use in this process, so that they can carry out all the procedures without leaving their home or place of study.
Specifically, you must have any of the identification systems available at the Department’s electronic headquarters (permanent Cl@ve -advanced level-, digital certificate issued by one of the certification entities admitted by the Electronic Office or electronic DNI).
Applications that do not complete the telematic submission process, which includes obtaining the Proof of Entry Registration, a document that must be kept by the applicant to prove, if necessary, the submission of their application will not be taken into account. application within the established period and form.
The application form can be downloaded from the website of the General Directorate of Universities (https://www.gobiernodecanarias.org/educacion/web/estudiantes…) and at the Electronic Office of the Government of the Canary Islands (https://sede.gobiernodecanarias.org).
Regarding the aid established for university students with functional diversity, the bases of the call establish that the additional amounts vary depending on the degree of disability; 600 euros in the case of a disability between 33 and 49%; 900 euros if this ranges between 50 and 65%, and 1,500 euros for applicants who exceed 65%. In addition, if a degree of disability greater than 65% and dependency level of degree III, level 2 is recognized, the amount is 2,300 euros.
On the other hand, insularity supposes an additional economic effort for families resident in the Canary Islands, which particularly affects those who have their residence in non-capital islands. For this reason, a differentiated treatment is contemplated for applicants who must carry out their university studies on islands other than their residence or on the Peninsula.
