The boarding of the Virgen del Carmen returns to the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife after the break due to COVID

The port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and specifically its Anaga dock, will again celebrate this Saturday, July 16, the popular maritime procession of Our Lady of Carmen, patron saint of sailors, after two years without being able to host it due to restrictions derived from COVID-19.

It will be the occasion for the faithful of the patron saint once again to enjoy this traditional celebration for which the participation of up to seventy boats has already been authorized out of a maximum of one hundred planned, according to the Port Authority.

The embarkation of the Sagrada Imagen on the VB Canarias tugboat is expected to take place around 7:45 p.m., since the unit must set sail before 8:00 p.m. to cover a crossing already authorized by the Maritime Captaincy that, with an expected duration of one hour, will reach the mouth of the Dársena de Anaga to return to its starting point at the Link Dock.

The VB Canarias, owned by Boluda Remolcadores y Barcazas, will already be decked out and will carry on board the corresponding flower crown that will be thrown into the sea in tribute to those who have died in seafaring and port activities. It will also have the necessary infrastructure to safely accommodate the Sacred Image during the journey.

Due to his condition by COVID19, the president of Puertos de Tenerife, Carlos González, will not be able to be present at the celebration, so it will be the director of the port body, Javier Mora, who will launch together with the mayor of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, José Manuel Bermúdez, the corresponding crown to the sea.

mass and procession

At six o’clock in the afternoon, the Holy Mass will start in the Matriz Parish of Our Lady of La Concepción, which, once concluded, will begin the land procession that will lead to the port of Tenerife. Accompanied by the Municipal Band of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and escorted by the Local Police of Gran Gala, she will go down Afilarmónica Ni Fú ni Fá street until she reaches Bravo Murillo to head towards the Cabildo and access the port through the walkway located in front of said headquarters. .

Once at the port facility, the image will be received by the port director, Javier Mora, and a representative of the Port Police in gala uniform who will accompany it to the embarkation point at the South Dock.

This year it will be the Asociación Músico Cultural Rondalla Unión Artística El Cabo who will perform different habaneras in homage to the Patron while it approaches the tugboat VB Canarias and, already at the time of boarding, together with the Municipal Band of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, they will own with Salve Marinera.

Chago Melián will also make his musical contribution from the deck of the Correíllo La Palma on the return of the maritime procession to the pier, thus giving way to the disembarkation and return of the Virgin to the Mother Church with expected arrival around ten o’clock at night.

In addition to the fireworks that the Real Club Náutico de Tenerife will launch as a tribute when the Sagrada Imagen approaches the mouth of the Dársena de Anaga, there are those from Puertos de Tenerife that can be enjoyed around 9:00 p.m., coinciding with the end of the procession.
